CHRONOLOGY

Toyota do Brasil produced the Bandeirante from 1962 until 2001, making it the longest-tenured Land Cruiser in the world.

During that time, the vehicle underwent numerous changes in accordance with evolving technologies & popular trends.

Here, in chronological order, are the different models.

1959

The First LC in Brazil

FJ25 (aka FJ251)- A topless jeep featuring the Toyota F engine. Produced from May 1959 until 1960/61.

1960-61

Soft-top jeep featuring the Toyota F engine. Produced from 1960 to 1961.

FJ151L

Soft-top jeep featuring the Toyota 2F engine. Produced from 1960/1961 until December 1961. Replaced the FJ25/FJ251 & FJ25L/FJ251L. There are few mentions of this vehicle, and no known specimen exists. Consequently, it is unclear as to whether the vehicle was ever actually produced.

1962

The TBs

  • TB25L - Soft-top jeep featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324. Produced from January 1962 to August 1968. Replaced the FJ25L/FJ251L/FJ151L.

  • TB25L - Steel-topped jeep featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine. Produced from January 1962 to August 1968.

  • TB41L - Steel-topped wagon (long wheel-based jeep) featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine. Produced from September 1962 to July 1968.

  • TB51L - Short pick-up featuring a standard bed and the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine. Produced from September 1962 to January 1966.

1965

The Last LC in Brazil

  • TB51L3 - Extended cab long pick-up featuring 3 doors, standard-sized bed (with cover), and the Mercedes-Benz OM-324. It is unclear how many—if any—specimens exist.

1966

The 1st Generation of Bandies Begins

  • OJ32L - Soft-top jeep featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine (prior to August 1966 until August 1968). Replaced the soft-top TB25L.

  • OJ31L - Steel-top jeep featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine (prior to August 1966 until August 1968). Replaced the steel-top TB25L.

  • TB81L - Short pick-up featuring a standard bed and the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine (February 1966 to August 1968). Replaced the TB51L.

1968

Gen 1 Evolves

  • OJ40L - Soft-top jeep featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324. Produced from September 1968 to January/February 1973. Replaced the OJ32L.

  • OJ40LV - Steel-top jeep featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine. Produced from October 1968 to January/February 1973. Replaced the OJ31L.

  • OJ40LV-B - Wagon featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine. Produced from October 1968 to January/February 1973. Replaced the TB41L.

  • OJ45LP-B - Short pick-up truck with standard bed featuring the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 engine. Produced from September 1968 to January/February 1973. Replaced the TB81L.

Bandeirantes produced between latter half of 1993 and the first semester of 1994 feature the unique pairing of Mercedes-built OM-364 engines with Toyota 5-spd transmissions.
